Yayoi Kusama’s distinctive polka dots have become one of the most recognisable visual signatures in contemporary art — and her influence reached a global fashion audience through her collaborations with Louis Vuitton.
The relationship between Kusama and the French luxury house first came together in 2012, when her famous dots and artistic motifs were incorporated into Louis Vuitton bags, accessories, clothing and store installations.
Ten years later, the collaboration returned in 2023, expanding Kusama’s visual language across hundreds of fashion pieces and transforming Louis Vuitton spaces around the world into immersive, colourful installations.
Kusama died in Tokyo on 14 August 2026, aged 97. Her official studio said she continued creating art until her final days.
